Happy New Year 2007!

Unravel the foil lip off of the tapered end of a bottle of bubbly and pop the tight, spongy, vacuum-packed cork to celebrate the beginning of a wonderful new year!

I celebrated the beginning of 2007 (and the end of 2006) simply: with my closest friend and warm, freshly baked bread (savory olive bread and sweet panettone--a tall, fluffy Italian bread eaten during the holidays and made with dried fruits, citrus rind, and toasted nuts) from the local bakery. Add herbed water crackers, thin slices of salty summer sausage, a thick wedge of brie, a full cluster of juicy grapes, and a plate filled to the edges with crisp, bite-sized crudité (baby carrots, sugar snap peas, and broccoli florets), and you're ready to usher in the new year as I did--the simple way!

  9. I recently visited SF from the culinary desert that is rice-and-beans land (Dominican Republic). I gorged for 6 days whilst visiting family, and now have live on rice and beans for another 4 months before heading back to food civilisation.

    I am not sure if your blog will keep my taste buds alive and my sanity, or if the jealousy will drive me over the edge into madness.
